Our story
Trans BPOC people in Europe often come from first, second, or third-generation migrant families, with backgrounds in former colonies, diasporas, or refugee contexts. What connects us is the shared experience of living as trans BPOC in predominantly white societies.
Our communities face intersecting forms of inequality, including racism, discrimination, and social exclusion. Many rely on informal or precarious forms of employment, which can include sex work, to sustain their livelihoods.
These circumstances can increase vulnerability to poverty, food insecurity, homelessness, violence, and, in extreme cases, transphobic hate crimes.
Our vision
Our work focuses on three main areas:
- Trans-specific healthcare – We provide policy advice and advocacy on improving access to inclusive healthcare for trans people, including supporting the implementation of the WHO ICD-11 framework on gender incongruence.
- Advocacy for better living conditions – We work to improve the overall social and economic conditions of trans BPOC communities in Europe, addressing issues such as housing, employment, safety, and protection from discrimination. This includes advocating for the rights and safety of trans people in sex work, with decriminalization as part of a broader agenda.
- HIV activism – We bring forward trans BPOC perspectives and narratives in the HIV response, with a focus on inclusivity of gender non-conforming people, non-binary people, and trans men.
We aim to integrate these areas of expertise into our activism, policy work, and community-building efforts. Our goal is to empower and emancipate trans BPOC people, while working toward greater recognition and inclusion of trans BPOC issues within European policy and political frameworks.
