For who is our hormone support?
The following communities from Amsterdam can contact us for support with hormone access:
- People with refugee status, in asylum procedure, or undocumented.
- People who are migrant or children of migrants (including the Dutch Ballroom Scene).
If you belong to one or more of these groups, we can invite you for an intake appointment. During an intake, we explore what options are available for you in the Dutch healthcare system.
Most times, we can help you with a referral to regular gendercare services. For those who cannot access regular care, we look for safe alternatives.
Send an email with your details to: transzorg@ggd.amsterdam.nl
We realize that many people need access to hormone support.
Unfortunately, our clinic is too small to solve the nationwide problems with waitinglists. Despite our desire to help as many people as possible, we are aware that these challenges cannot be solved by us. We aim to take care of those who are usually double-excluded. Not only because of transphobia, but also because of xenophobia, racism, islamophobia and other forms of exclusion. This also means we need to limit our services to those who face most exclusion, no matter how painful we find it that we have to limit our services.
The services by Trans United and the Amsterdam Public Health Center are specifically intended for people from the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (see area image) who don’t have access to regular care because of extra barriers. For people from other regions, we try to collaborate with their local doctors and advocate for more local trans clinic collaboration throughout the country.
What to Expect at our Clinic?
Where do you start if you don’t speak the language and don’t understand the system?
Our first step is to help you navigate the Dutch gendercare system, and connect you with regular care where possible. Often, with the right referral you can be connected to an endocrinologist of a genderteam.
Our aim is not to replace regular gendercare. We aim to be the bridge to getting the best care you deserve. This way, our team supports you from a place of no support to a place of self-reliance, by offering guidance, support and care on case-to-case basis.
